"Dukie - Jalopnik Emergency Management Asshole" (Dukie)

On Sunday, I picked up my new "project".
It's another 1981 Toyota Celica GT. This one is "running" a 22R with a beefy 292 cam and 44mm Mikunis.
Pretty similar to Grimace's 20/22R motor (which has a 272 cam and a ported & polished 20R head). Unfortunately, it's not running at the moment. There's something going on with it, so Grimace will be donating it's heart to Aces. Why am I calling it Aces? Toyota stamps a number into the upper core support, I have no idea what it's for as it doesn't correspond to any of the other numbers on the car. But this is the one on this car:
01111. So I'm gonna use that as the reasoning for her name, Aces.
She's already on coilovers up front, AE86 springs with AGX adjustable shocks out back, W58 transmission, & 14x7 -0 offset Konig Rewinds. I'll be reusing the carbs (they're in better shape than Grimace's), and header. I really like how it sits right now, even though there isn't a ton of clearance on the bottom of the header. PO said it handled very well before the motor acted up, and I can't wait to get it back on the road. That won't be happening for a few weeks though.

Thanks, now to get the 1979 Supra shell out of the garage, do the motor swap, get rid of Grimace, and get this back on the road.

A lot of those will be coming off (especially the big ones on the paint). I will be keeping some of the ones on the rear window though. The car has been to many local shows (The NW Toy Run for many years) and I like that "history" of it.

That engine looks pretty clean - any idea what's wrong with it?

I've probably said so before, but if you ever want to part out or get rid of the 79 Supra, I'll gladly take the rear end off your hands.

No. It starts and runs, but very roughly. Lots of smoke out of the tailpipe, no coolant in the oil though. I'm going to tear it down and most likely rebuild it and make it a little more stout.

And that is the reason it's still in the garage. Rear end is out, MkII Supra LSD is next to it. Both are awaiting a rebuild (which will be well after the motor swap) and installation into Aces. Sorry man.

Off topic, but what's the story behind your name? Are you in the EM field?

Well in the event you come across another one by some random happenstance, let me know. My wagon needs some LSD.

Dude, awesome! Congrats. I love the Konigs! That motor looks brand new.
I'm heading to Georgia this weekend to pickup my first project car. Driving it home 8 hours.

Wait, we've discussed this before, haven't we? Your Cressi should have the F-code rear. But I assume you want the disc brake setup instead of the drums? You could just find a MkII LSD and then find a brake upgrade later.

Nope. E-code. Completely useless rear end with no hope for swapping in of better hardware.

I'm starting to think about sourcing an 8.8 axle from an older 4 lug foxbody Mustang if one pops up in the junkyard and putting the brackets from my axle on there. So easy to get parts for (and cheap, LSD's are only like $400). Also it would be able to hold the power if I decided to do a 1UZ/7MGTE/2JZGE/5MGTE conversion down the road.

You could also rock an 8" Toyota truck axle.

I've thought about that, but I think mustang axles are just easier and cheaper to source and get parts for around here.
